Thor: Ragnarok

Special thanks to Reading Cinemas Chirnside Park for the complementary tickets.

I have been a fan of the Thor franchise from the moment that homegrown hero Chris Hemsworth was cast as the God of Thunder. In fact, I have been a long time fan of Chris right back to his days on Home and Away when he played the absolute spunk Kim Hyde. I can recall a hot summer's day back in 2010 when I was at Phillip Island for a holiday. I was doing some shopping in one of the town's many surf shops when my sister turned to me and said "Michelle, is that the Hemsworth brothers?" to which I replied "Shit I think it is!. We then both proceeded to "shop" from afar but unfortunately neither of us had the courage to speak to either of them as we were both struck down by their handsomeness. After this whirlwind encounter I remember telling my sister that Chris was going to be the next big thing and boy did he achieve that prediction.

Inspired by the classic Hulk comic book 'Planet Hulk' Thor: Ragnarok, as the title suggests focuses on Ragnarok the prophesied end of Asgard and follows Thor as he races against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

Thor: Ragnarok is a hilarious romp from start to finish and would best be compared to either of the Guardians of the Galaxy films in terms of tone which is a welcomed change from the traditional Marvel formula. It was very refreshing to see Thor cracking jokes left, right and center and the best part of his wisecracking is that the gags are no longer at the expense of Thor's lack of Earth knowledge, which is an exciting and welcomed change.

The relationships between Thor and Loki is one of my all time favourites. They are the classic siblings who squabble over the smallest qualms which reminds me of the stupid and pointless arguments that I myself have with my own sister.

The relationship that blossomed between Thor and Hulk was something that I did not expect to work so well. They both have extremely dry senses of humour which in turn creates many entertaining moments that will stick with viewers for a long time.

The most surprising new addition to the cast was Director Taika Waititi's portrayal of the rock gladiator Korg. Never have I identified with a character as much as Korg. His casual approach to every situation he's thrown is paired up with his classic New Zealand accent made for hysterical viewing. Every singer person in the theatre was laughing every time he opened his mouth. Please give him his own movie!!

Thor: Ragnarok is goofy and joyous escapade and easily the most purely entertaining of the three Thor movies that had be laughing from start to finish. It was a really fantastic change of pace for the series that has continued to propel the Avengers franchise towards the upcoming Infinity Wars blockbuster.

If you're already a Marvel convert or if you just enjoy a good laugh, I highly recommend checking out Thor's latest adventure!!
