The first Incredibles film is one that I hold very close to my heart. It was a childhood favourite of mine and to this day is still one of those films I always enjoy sitting down and watching.
Going into The Incredibles 2 I was so excited with anticipation 14 years in the making. I was one of those people who wasn’t going to let any kid who wasn’t alive for the first one ruin the experience for me. Thankfully I didn’t have to hurl popcorn at any noisy children.
The Incredibles 2 well and truly lived up to the hype. From the get go you immediately noitice how much animation has improved in the 14 year gap between films. Everything looks visually stunning.
The opening sequence with The Underminer was fantastic and had me smiling from ear to ear. Wether it was the action taking place on screen, the witty banter between the members of the Parr family or that iconic them music that still sends chills down my spine, everything about the start of the film got me hooked and ready for what was to come.
It was really great to see them do a role reversal with Bob and Helen. Putting Elastigirl at the front, while having Mr Incredible sit on the sideline dealing with the struggles of being a stay at home dad was a master stroke and honestly portrayed what it would be like to care for a family in real life.
Jack Jack was such a breakout star of the film. The scene with the raccoon was legendary and all of his scenes with the other characters, especially Edna were easily highlights.
The only downfall of The Incredibles 2 for me was the villain. Screenslaver was always going to have a difficult time standing up next to Syndrome and sadly she just wasn’t as good. It was quite predictable and the stakes weren’t as high and dramatic as they were in the first film.
Apart from that though, The Incredibles 2 was everything I wanted it to be. I had such high hopes for this film and I couldn’t be happier that it met my expectations. Sure it wasn’t as good as the first one but it stands comfortably next to it and that’s fine with me. I will continue to love this film for years to come.
